Lets Help Every Child Reach Their Full Potential

Chicago Children's Culture Club or "Chi Child" for short, was Created to share the gift of the performing arts with every child, not just those whose families can afford it. The arts are an essential part of children's positive development, yet so many children are going without this gift due to lack of resources. The arts allow children to tap into their imagination and creativity helping them to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. Without this crucial component to development children don't thrive. Chi Child will make it possible for children living in under privileged areas to engage in Chicago's rich culture by providing a way for the children of these underserved neighborhoods to attend plays, shows, musical theatre performances, museums and various other cultural events at no cost to the families.

Wants to Change That

Where It Started

Do you remember attending your first musical theater performance? I do. It was "The Nutcracker." It was a grade school field trip, and I still remember how excited I was and how there was a spark inside of me that was ignited by that entire experience. From the beautiful designs of the venue to the larger-than-life characters, to the dramatic music. Thats what the performing arts does for children, it ignites a flame that if not fanned, dies and along with-it passion and hope.

That field trip confirmed two things for me. One magic was real and two, dreams do come true.

About the FOUNDER

Hello, my fellow Chicagoans, my name is Nannette and I have been a Chicago resident all my life. I am a wife, mother and a grandmother. I work in the heart of downtown Chicago as a clerk. I

have always had a passion for the performing arts. And whenever possible, I enjoy one of the various musical theatre performances downtown Chicago offers. Often times I see children on school field trips at these performances. However, I never see children from my community. Those smiling faces glued to the stage almost never look like my children or my grandchildren. And it saddens me that so many inner-city youths are missing out on this magical opportunity simply because they can't afford it. I created Chi Child Culture Club with those children in mind.

Born Out of Necessity

Chi Child Culture Club was founded February 2023 born out of necessity for inner city Chicago youth to engage in the performing arts in which they are so grossly deprived. The children of Chicago who live in the most challenging neighborhoods are the ones who could benefit the most from the arts and the various outlets the arts provide yet they are the ones who continue to suffer the most. They are being forced to live a life withholding of the most crucial components for healthy self-development and self-expression. If their schools' arts programs aren't cut, then the school itself is closed. And what few schools in their neighborhoods that remain open are now seriously overcrowded, and underfunded. What's more these children are not afforded recess outside which means they are confined without sunshine and fresh air for the better part of their day. Only to return home in a community that is so neglected and dangerous that their parents forbid outside play time as well in an attempt to keep them safe. The end result of continuously living in an environment that accepts allowing its future generations to be neglected, overlooked and abandoned, is a generation that feels undervalued, depressed, and angry. Which is displayed in rage and violence as evidenced in the violent carjackings plaguing Chicago at the hands of these very deprived youth. This must change. Chi Child will give these children, Chicago's children, an introduction to the performing arts and the opportunities that come along with that exposure. We would attend multiple outings to popular musical theater performances and various cultural events in Chicago. All at no cost to the youth or their families, made possible by donations and grants. Trips would consist of four to six adults accompanying one to two children per adult. Won't You join Chi Child in its mission to

share the gift of the arts with every child?
